When you think of spring cleaning, what comes to mind?
For many people, a seasonal deep clean is associated with the home. However, many of the same tasks on your spring cleaning checklist for your home can also be used for your vehicle. After all, dirt gets tracked in and clutter accumulates in both your house and car. Why not give them the same seasonal scrub?
Check out five spring cleaning tips to help you tidy both your house and your car this season.
Declutter
First, get rid of what doesn’t belong. To declutter your car and the rooms in your house, make three piles: keep, donate and trash. If you feel overwhelmed, try tackling it in small batches, such as 15 minutes a day.
Organize
Once you’ve gotten rid of things you no longer want or use, it’s time to organize what’s left. For your house, this may look like new storage bins, shelving or filing cabinets.
In your car, use bins to store emergency gear, reusable grocery bags, sports stuff, snacks or anything else you regularly keep there.
Dust and Vacuum
Getting organized will free up surfaces and floors to be dusted and vacuumed. Start with dusting, working your way from high to low. Then vacuum floors and upholstered furniture. In your car, don’t forget to get on and under the floor mats.
Clean inside and out
In your home, mop tile floors and clean wood floors. Scrub bathrooms and the kitchen. Don’t forget about the windows, especially the exteriors. Break out that pressure washer.
You can take your vehicle to a car wash or do it yourself at home. Depending on the condition of your car’s seats, you may also want to use an upholstery cleaner and odor eliminator.
Deodorize
A pleasant scent makes any space feel cozier. In your car, you could hang an air freshener, spray a favorite scent, or diffuse essential oils. In your home, use candles (though never unattended), sprays, essential oils or plug-in scents to keep your space smelling good.
